Herod Never Knew

I.
When Jesus was born in Bethlehem in the days of Herod the king,
There came the wise men from the east, saying, we are come to worship him.
When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled and all that were with him.
He gathered all the chief priests and scribes together, asking, where should be this King.

Then Herod had privily called the wise men, saying, go and search diligently,
When ye have found him, bring me the word, that I may come and worship Him.
They followed the star, then saw the young Child, they fell down and worshipped Him,
And they had not returned to Herod the king for God had warned them in a dream. 

III.
If Herod had known where Christ should be, there would be no story
Of how the lame walked, the lepers were cleansed, and the blind could finally see;
If Herod the king had slain the young Child,
Eternal damnation for you and me,
But our Christ did grow up then carried the cross and died to set us free!
