Run Not Away

I.
The Word of the Lord came unto Jonah,
“Arise, and go to Nineveh,
Cry against it, that great city,
For their wickedness is come before me.”

II.
But Jonah rose up to flee,
Away from that wicked city,
Went into a ship, but dangerous journey
For God sent a great wind into the sea.

III.
The men of the ship were afraid exceedingly
For tempest of the sea was mighty;
Then Jonah was cast forth into the tempestuous sea;
Three days and three nights in the great fish’s belly;

IV.
But the Lord was still the God of mercy
So Jonah prayed so fervently,
Confessed all his sins, sought Him earnestly,
And followed His will, obeyed His Word quickly.

Run not away, never go astray,
Whatever God will say, trust and obey;
In His way ye stay for perfect is His way;
Do His will today, run not away.

Coda
For no chastening seemeth to be joyous,
But thou wilt be very very grievous;
If ye run away, further ye may,
But there will come a day, great price thou wilt pay!
